The Sargodhian Spirit – Mehran Debating Championship, 2018
Parliamentary Debating, a growing trend of speaking amongst the schools and colleges especially in southern and northern areas of Pakistan, was first introduced in interior Sindh some two years ago by SST Public School Rashidabad, and being the trailblazer in a number of curricular and co-curricular activities, the school hosted the first ever parliamentary style debate tournament under the title of “The Sargodhian Spirit – Mehran Debating Championship, 2018” with a collaboration of Debating Society of Pakistan (DSP). This tournament continued for three days starting from the afternoon of 28th September to the evening of 30th September, 2018 providing a platform to 24 teams of various institutions of Pakistan to compete with each other.
The first four rounds were Preliminary Rounds that every team had to underdo, and by the end of these four rounds the eight top-scoring teams contested Quarter Finals which were followed by Semi Finals and Final Round of the Tournament.
The Final match of the Tournament was played between Beacon House Defence Campus (Lahore) and Aitchison College (Lahore), and latter emerged victorious.
Being an absolute host of the Tournament, SST Public School provided a number of picks and drops from Karachi and Hyderabad to all outstation teams, including transportation within the vicinity of Rashidabad. The School also presented furnished accommodation and food to all teams for free throughout the Tournament, and all these arrangements were made by the vigorous, talented and hardworking staff of SST Public School.
At the end of the Tournament, all the participating teams were awarded with Participation Certificates and tea mugs bearing their names, and their adjudicators and team managers were also presented with gift hampers containing school prospectus, a copy of annual magazine “The Spirit”, school calendar and mugs bearing their names.
The Chief Guest of the Tournament was Air Cdr (Retd) Shabbir Ahmed Khan, and Ms. Aisha Amir Ahmed, President of DSP, graced the event as the Chief Adjudicator.
By the grace of Allah Almighty, the Tournament was a grand success and it was appreciated by all the teams.
